Fluxys relies on Argon for pipeline inspection
| |
Argon has signed a three-year contract with Fluxys for pipeline inspection through 3D laser scanning.
|
Fluxys systematically inspects its gas infrastructure to identify elements which may present a safety risk in future. After a number of years in operation, all infrastructure elements are subjected to a detailed examination.
Detecting areas of metal loss long before they would be able to pose a safety threat is a key element of this inpection strategy.
With so-called 'smart pigs', the wall thickness of the pipeline is screened from the inside. When areas of metal loss are detected due to emerging corrosion, detailed information is needed on the form and the extent of this metal loss. Fluxys was in need of a flexible partner who could deliver this information through on-site 3D laser scanning, within 3 days.

Argon entered into a framework agreement with Fluxys. The technology used is a Metris scanner, mounted on a Faro arm.

Results are sent through the next day, using a standardised reporting format, based on worst case profiles (below lef) and colour plots (below right).
